TO: UK SUPERMARKETS "DITCH THROWAWAY PLASTIC PACKAGING!"
UK supermarkets currently generate 800,000 tonnes of plastic packaging every year. But our oceans can’t stomach any more plastic! From turtles entangled in six pack rings to whales with stomachs full of plastic bags, the effects of plastic pollution can be devastating. UK supermarket Iceland has announced its own-brand packaging is going plastic-free. By ditching plastic packaging, supermarkets have the power to lead the way in dramatically reducing the amount of single-use plastic produced. Add your name to the petition and tell UK supermarkets to follow Iceland’s lead and ditch throwaway plastic packaging. Sign this petition
BAN DISPOSABLE PLASTIC IN THE UK
As a nation and as human beings we have a huge responsibility for the future of Earth and ensuring wildlife on our planet continues to survive. We must stop senseless production and use of disposable plastics for the sake of convenience. We can reuse everyday items such as cups, bottles, bags, plates and containers. Companies can remove unnecessary waste such as unhelpful packaging, especially in our shopping centres and supermarkets. Steps can be taken to avoid disposable plastic, so that we can as a nation stop adding to the problem. Why is this important? France recently committed to this cause and we should follow. We don’t have time to wait, the planet and it’s inhabitants – including humans – are dying, drowning in plastic and we need to stop our own slow demise. Sign this petition
